Sunday in DC

On Sunday morning we relaxed a bit around the hotel and then headed to Arlington National Cemetery. We walked to the Kennedy memorial and witnessed the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Next we drove over the Memorial Bridge and parked on the Potomac river. We walked to the Lincoln Memorial. There were two mounted police officers and Declan enjoyed looking at and petting the horses. We made our way up into the monument to see Lincoln.

We left the Linocln Memorial and stopped for a snack. Then we headed to Iliya Tonsager's 1st birthday party. Iliya is about 10 days younger than Declan. We celebrated her first birthday with her parents Keith and Lindsay, her uncle Josh, and her grandparents Sharon and Dallas. We had a great time getting to know everyone better and watching Declan and Iliya play. Declan towered over Iliya! We were shocked that he's taller than someone his age!

After the birthday party, we went to the Jefferson Memorial in the dark! On our way to the Jefferson Memorial we stopped to see the George Mason statue. It was amazing walking along the river up to the memorial. While we stood outside admiring it, Marine One flew over as Obama returned from Las Vegas. We walked in to the memorial to see the statue of Jefferson. Declan stared and stared at him. Then he took two steps forward. He was so shocked he sat right down!

We left the Jefferson Memorial and walked back along the river to the FDR memorial.

We walked back to our car along the river and headed back to the hotel after another long, fun day!
