Washington D.C November 20-21

On Thursday November 20th we flew from Seattle to Baltimore to see the sites in Washington DC and visit Brad's family! We rented a car and drove to Chevy Chase where Aunt Cynthia and Uncle Chris live. Aunt Cyn had made a delcious dinner of roast chicken, salad, cooked carrots and the best bread in DC. After dinner we had a great time visiting. We left later in the evening to head to our hotel about 40 minutes away.

Friday morning we got up bright and early and caught the shuttle to the metro station. We rode the metro into the hear of DC. After dropping off Declan's stroller, we went to get in line to see the White House! While we waited in line we watched Marine One take off with President Obama inside.  Our id's were checked by the secret service three times, a dog sniffed and we walked through and metal detector before being allowed inside. We had a self guided tour through the East Wing of the White House. We saw the presidential china for many of the presidents. Brad and I both like Lincoln's cut glass dishes. We saw the red room, the room which hosts the presidential dinners, the blue room and a few more. The portraits on the wall were amazing to see. We also asked questions of many of the secret service men who were very knowledgeable and helpful.

After the White House tour, we went to the Holocaust museum. It was very interesting to learn new things about WWII but also quite sad.

Later we grabbed a sandwich at Jimmie John's and rode the metro back to our hotel. We took Declan for a swim in the cold pool and then went to eat dinner. It was a wonderful first full day in D.C.
